The Corry Area Food Pantry’s overall goal since its inception in 1982 has always been the same:
“Go Out of Business”.  In 1982 there were 72 needy families, presently there are approximately 400 needy families in the Corry area.

Plant closings, job losses and a slumping economy have compounded to make providing food to hungry families who live in the Corry Area School District an even greater priority for the Food Pantry.  The pantry’s board of directors and a group of more than 40 volunteers do all they can to alleviate the growing problem of hunger in Corry.

Through its monthly food distributions - held at the Corry Area Food Pantry every third Friday each month from 9 to 11:30 a.m., each qualifying family receives enough food items to last about one week.  Much of the food is purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, which is able to provide a variety of food items at bargain prices.

Sander’s Market, Hillandale Farms and Save-A-Lot are among the local businesses that provide food items and fresh produce at wholesale prices to help feed the needy families.  Troyer Land Resources also donates potatoes free of charge.  Frequently, local farmers also pitch in with fresh produce.

A variety of Food Drives held throughout the year help bring in the much-needed food, as well as money used to buy food.  They include Sander’s Move The Mountain of Hunger food drive; the drive-thru food drive at Northwest Savings Bank - sponsored by Second Harvest & WICU-TV; Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest one-day food drive co-sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers and Campbell Soup; and Feed America, a distribution program organized by WalMart.

Families may sign up during the distribution days or get more information by calling the Corry Area Food Pantry at 814.664.7359.  Volunteers wishing to donate their time should also call the pantry.
